Message from the President - Tim Duggan

It is a great honour to be your President for the season 2009-2010.This year we celebrate 50 years as a Senior Club and I know that our players will bear this in mind as they take to the pitch .We would not exist without all the hard work carried out by our founding Fathers throughout the decades and we owe them a good season. Much work has gone on during the Summer and I feel we are in much better shape both on and off the field to tackle the season ahead. I want to wish all our players the best of luck and I hope as members that we show our support on the sideline. On behalf of the Club I hope The Carmelite Community across the lake enjoy many great days and nights as they celebrate their 150th year.

As a Club we welcome all players both from the College, surrounding Schools and Colleges and from every corner of Ireland. We are an open club. If you are transferring to Dublin for work or third level courses please feel free to call into Lakeland’s where you will be warmly greeted. If you are coming back to us from College please bring a friend or two.

I want to thank our main sponsors BOC Gases and I note that this season we celebrate 10 years together. I thank Gerry Donovan for his loyalty through good times and bad and hopefully we can repay them in kind this season. We are indebted to all our sponsors and without your financial support we could not exist. I want to wish our Club Captain Mark Mahony and his squad a successful season together with our newly appointed Director of Rugby Ian Morgan, his Assistant Coach James Blaney and First Team Manager Arthur Fitzpatrick We have some new faces on board this season and I feel the 1st squad are in good hands. I am delighted to see Peter Bruce and Dave Lynagh coaching the J1’s and Peter Walsh, Cormac Egan and Jonathon Garth coaching our U20’s.

Dan Crossan is our New Chairman of Rugby ably assisted by our New Junior Chairman of Rugby Conor O’Sullivan. Junior rugby has always come up with the goods over the past 70 years and I have no doubt that they will deliver again this season. It is great to hear that Digger Quinn is coaching the J2’s.

I want to congratulate Des Lamont and wish him all the best as the President of the Leinster Branch. To all our Mini and Youth players and their parents may I welcome you to Lakelands and I hope that our paths cross often this season and that your children have fun and some success along the way. Remember its not all about winning but taking part that counts.
